I just found this article on how the new Fantastic Beast movies, the book/play Cursed Child, and - of course - Pottermore are having an effect on fandom.
I found it pretty interesting (even though I just skimmed over it, I admit). But I also think our nook of fandom found a pretty good way to deal with all new additions to the Potter-verse: After all, anything new or anything past DH isn't really considered canon.
Be aware that there are some minor spoilers for the movie and the play in there.
Love to hear your opinion on this!

Date: 2016-11-26 11:48 am (UTC)I think there will always be issues like this in any fandom--it's just finally coming to a head in ours. I was going to read a ficlet the other day and realized it incorporated something fairly major from Pottermore and just backed out of it because I've no interest in some of that stuff.
I'm sure there are Star Trek people who ignore entire series of the show, preferring one series to the others. And other people perhaps love EVERYTHING. Heck, there are people who love a band up to a particular album and then ignore anything after it! LOL
I've been saying for a while that we'll just have to start being clearer about what universe we're working in. If it's Next Gen, is it Cursed Child compliant? Etc.
