Snape showed him the third book in a row, but Harry only shook his head.
"Potter. I will not show you every damn book in the shop. Decide which one you want and leave."
"It's not my fault that Hermione already has those," Harry protested, even though he had no clue which ones Hermione really owned. She simply had too many for him to remember. "And I'm not saying that you should show me all of them. Just the ones on myths in ancient wizarding societies. And those with Christmas stories."
Snape gave him a look and moved on to the next book. "Fine."
"Say, do you like eggnog?" Harry asked out of the blue.
"What?"
Quickly, Harry made a verbal retreat. "Nothing. Just wondering." He crossed eggnog of his mental list of topics to talk about.
Snape held out a book to him and Harry moved closer to look at it. Standing so close to Snape gave him a funny feeling in the pit of his stomach. Harry took a deep breath and tried to concentrate on the book—something on angels and Christmas or something of the like—but he could only focus on Snape's scent. Bloody hell.

Ron stared at Harry as if he was expecting him to explain further, but Harry had nothing to say.
"So?" Ron prompted.
"I don't know what I could use as a pretence to go back in there."
Ron looked like he really wanted to say something, but he just shook his head and waved his wand to shut off Celestina Warbeck's warbling on the radio.
