After the errors that happened around Thanksgiving/Christmas, with LJ updates and the move of servers to Russia, a lot of people started flocking to DW. Well, just this week, LJ posted their new Terms of Service, which states that all accounts and content must fall under Russian laws, many of which are anti LGBQT. Slash fans are afraid of having their journals deleted by the authorities and are fleeing to DW to preserve their posts and stay active in their communities. Het fans might feel a bit safer to stay, but who knows how the political climate in Russia will deal with fanfiction in general.
