His lips were chapped and when they kissed, Harry could taste the wine on George's breath. But it was the only thing that grounded him these days. The snow swirling around them, the world looking pretty despite it all, despite all the madness that was going on. There was still fighting and death, even though the war had been won. In the middle of the night, the house was finally quiet and it was just George and Harry sitting under the Christmas tree. No family trying to be sympathetic, no friends looking at them with worried expressions on their faces.
The afterglow of desperate sex shining like sweat on their skin, they leafed through books someone had left there.
"How about a Christmas poem?" Harry asked with a slightly sarcastic edge to his voice that had snuck in when the war had ended.
"Hit me."
But the cheery lines didn't make it past Harry's lips. Instead, he just kissed George.
