Viktor was fifteen minutes late, and somehow George didn't think that it was very much like the man to leave him hanging like this. He tried to squelch the uneasy feeling that was settling in his stomach and played with the candle on the table – lighting it and extinguishing its flame over and over again. When Viktor finally showed up, George got up to hug him, but Viktor immediately sat down at the table. The feeling in George's stomach worsened.
"What's up?"
"We've got to talk. The league approached me about a job."
George swallowed thickly. "I thought you're retired."

"Then he said, he didn't want to risk his job and reputation by being in a relationship with a bloke," George said and ran his hands through his hair. A mug filled with cocoa and a mountain of whipped cream was placed in front of him and he nodded his thanks at Charlie, who was home for the holidays.
"He really said that?"
"Something along those lines, at least." George spooned some cream from his drink. "I'm feeling like I'm losing something great even before it's begun."
"Have you told him that? And that gay players aren't an issue here?"
