I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack!
May. 28th, 2006 12:32 amI'm back! Yes! *dances* I had very much fun in Madrid. My mother, my sister and I flew over to Munich on Wednesday morning and from there to Madrid, where we entered the Metro (first time riding the Metro in Spain). We left it where the people at the information desk told us to and had to walk up a hill (did you know that Madrid has loads of hills? It goes up and down and up and down all the time) to get to the hotel. Right in front of it was the Metro station Antón Martin (one earlier than the one we left ... meh). Our room was quite nice, had a TV (with German channels ... yay! I got to watch MTV - something I don't get at my flat for some strange reason) and a mini-bar (that we didn't use) and a big bathroom.
On our first day we went to look around the area of the hotel (quite in the center of the city), looked at Plaza Mayor loads of others and went shopping. :D Yay! In the evening we ate at this tiny restaurant, which was quite okay, but not the best one could get.
Next morning: Buffet breakfast in the hotel. They had everything from cereals, to chocolate-croissants, to cake, to three kinds of eggs, cheese, bacon, ham, salad, toast and bread and fruits. I think I nearly ate some of everything they had. Then we entered one of these double-decker tourist buses and drove around for a bit before leaving and walking around (to shop), then entered the bus again and did the same once over. When we were finished we entered the blue line. Unfortunately I fell asleep in the red line for a bit, but what I saw was pretty interesting. I can't even remember half of what we saw. In the evening we went to 'La Taperia' where I had Ravioli with cheese and a mushroom sauce while they played slight Spanish Ska and Tarkan in the background (I danced :P).
On Friday we went to Prado (biiig museum full of art) and looked at paintings by Goya, Velazquez and even Dürer (German artist) as well as many others. My head was crammed full after that. Then we decided to walked around the city for some more and followed the tours in our city map until my feet threatened to fall off. And of course we shopped some more on our way. :P We had a sort of lunch (did you know that the Spanish eat lunch veeeery late? They are a bit like Hobbits concerning food. They start with a light breakfast, followed by a brunch around 11 or 12, then they eat lunch in the afternoon and dinner around 9pm or later.) at this weird tapa-fast-food thing and then I went to Maoz (Vegetarian 'fast-food' thingy) to get some 'Patatas Flamadas', only to find myself surrounded by a group of American people (wasn't hard to guess where they were from with that accent). Madrid was full of Americans, by the way. Neither the Spanish nor the American know how to queue properly. *sigh* It's standing in a line, for God's sake, not in a pile.
Yeah, well, we walked around some mooooore (it's a wonder that I still have my feet, really), then went back to the hotel to go to a restaurant later. This restaurant was sooo funny! Usually I wouldn't have entered if not for my mother and the need to eat something. You couldn't look through the door and it looked a bit dubious, but we entered anyway. So there was this waiter. I should call him TEH waiter. He was so confused and gorgeous (not in a 'Oh look at his body' kind of way >.<) and so ... I don't know how to describe it, but it was cool). The restaurant seemed to be very popular, even with Spanish people, which is always a good sign (when people who life in the city like the restaurant it means that not only the 'stupid' tourist eat there). I got fish, which was really good and had strawberries for dessert. :D w00t!
Yeah and today we were in the Retiro (a park) before we grabbed our luggage and flew back here. It's rainy here. Bah. And not warm. Double bah.
All in all: Madrid isn't that much different than any other big city. It's quite cool there (not temperature wise), but I like London or Paris or Cologne better. Shopping was good, museums too. Walked to much, but that's normal on a city-trip and good for my health. Food was good too. I want a vegetarian fast food thingy here and an alternative to Subway (which I like). Umm ... what else?
Oh yes, I saw a Scientology church close to our hotel. And no, I don't like Scientology. GRRR! And some Jehovah's Witnesses tried to talk to me today. XP
I used a weird mixture of English and Spanish to get around (and I am the only one in the family who can speak Spanish).
Bought underwear and a shirt, I think, not more. My sister got fancy short trousers. Meh. Oh and the Spanish clothes sizes are designed to make you feel fat. Yes, I did. I usually have 36 in skirts and trousers, sometimes (but rarely) 38 and in t-shirts and tops 34. And in Spain? 40 or 42! *faints* My mother usually buys 42 or 44! That was so depressing, even though I (logically) know that I'm not fat. *sigh* Anyway, it didn't stop me from eating that eclair ... hehe
And I'm glad to be home, especially because I missed Des so much!
Did I forget anything? I hope not. If I did I will tell it tomorrow. And I will type the Oliver stuff that I wrote tomorrow.
By the way, is it normal that even unmarried women are called 'Mrs' now?
