"I'm so sorry!" Harry said again and again while moving as slow as possible. Confronting Snape was like confronting wild animals—you better moved slowly as not to provoke them. With a look of disdain, Snape spelled his own clothes clean and dry.
"Stop your litany already."
"I'm—yes, of course." Harry fought against the urge to hang his head and bemoan his fate, cleared his throat and gathered all of his courage to say "Please let me make it up to you."
The time it took for Snape to reply was pure agony. "Very well. What do you suggest?"
"Dinner? Someplace less crowded?" When Snape agreed Harry almost jumped up excitedly. He opted for the less embarrassing way and smiled.
The first restaurant that had come to Harry's mind was a Moroccan place not that far away. It was a Muggle place and a little out of the way, which promised as much privacy as one could get. It smelled like cinnamon, oranges and all-spice in there. They ordered harira, tabbouleh, and couscous with chicken, and talked little until they had ordered.
"I'm sorry," Harry started again, but Snape stopped him quickly. He didn't know what else to say now that they were finally alone on something that could be called a date. Snape made his heart beat like mad and there was a tickling feeling his stomach that was almost too distracting.
"Have you found what you were looking for?"
Harry stared at Snape and wondered if the man had read his mind, again. "Come again?"
"You obviously were shopping for Christmas presents. Have you found what you were looking for?"
Harry swallowed thickly. He had bought one thing only—he had not nearly what he needed. And yet he found himself saying, "Yes, I think I have."
