Christmas Cheer?

*sigh* I'm sitting in my bed right now, because whenever I get up my head starts spinning, and I'm wondering where the heck my Christmas Cheer is. The little Christmas Tree on my desktop says it's 14 days till Christmas and I think I should have Christmassy thoughts by now. But do I? No.

I suspect it's because I'm far away from home and don't have all the things here that belong to the pre-Christmas time for me. For one I don't have any Christmas markets here. No mulled wine. I made some German Christmas cookies, but I ate all of them already.

I have an Advent Wreath and I suppose I could light that one. I also have Christmas music. And still ... still there is nothing. No Christmas Cheer. And it's annoying. If I wasn't sick I might go Christmas shopping. The city and the mall have some Christmas decoration after all. And yet it's not the same. Besides, I don't know what to get for my family and shopping in a small town like this (when you're used to a metropolis) is kinda hard.

So, any idea how to awaken my Christmas Cheer?

Gorge on Christmas fic? XD I dunno. I go online and find whichever local station is playing Christmas music and just listen to that for a few hours.

And I'd light that wreath and maybe set it somewhere dark for ambiance. Never know. I always associate candles with Christmas so that might work for you too.

Hmmm, a change in Christmas music might be good. I always to the same stuff on my computer. Lighting wreath also good, need to do that right away. :D

Thanks!

I had that problem last year. Then my computer died, so, by default, I've got all new Christmas songs on it now. Heh.

Mmm, I think Germany is possibly the most Christmassy place ever. Welcome to the rest of the world...

Do more baking! Something with lots of nuts and spices. When you're better, obviously. Make paper chains?
Go click on Erastes' Advent Calendar? I can recommend today's entry... ;D
Umm, have a really big HUG?

Rwar! You were right about today's entry. Veeeery nice!

Paper chains? ... If I can remember how to do that, I might.

*hugs you back* Yay! Hugs!

It can be so hard to be in a completely different environment and away from your family, especially at such a family-centred time of year. What I found worked best during my first year in Ireland and then again when I was in the Dominican was setting my sights on planning -- I invited other people who were away from home to my place for a holiday celebration. It doesn't have to be a big affair, you could ask people to bring something, but what it will do is (1) give you something to look forward to and (2) give you a reason to decorate your home with more christmas-y things.

[insanejournal.com profile] drachenmina suggested baking too, and I second that thought -- filling your place with scents of the holidays will make it feel much more festive.

Don't worry about what to get your family, though. They just want you to be enjoying yourself I'm sure!
